NEW LOOK: Renovation continues at Varaždin Airport

July 03, 2024 |
LDVA Varaždin Airport

Varaždin Airport, with the ICAO code LDVA, is situated 2 km east of Varaždin city at an elevation of 547 feet. It is mainly used by people from Slovenia, Hungary, Austria, and Germany. The airport is appealing due to its proximity to Zagreb, Ljubljana, and Graz. However, there is a growing number of users visiting Varaždin for business or tourism purposes. Notable visitors to the airport include business jets from Avcon Jet and Alibrent.

The airport is licensed for both domestic and international traffic, with a runway oriented at 16/34, measuring 1611 meters in length and 30 meters in width. The asphalt runway, a 3000 m² apron, hangars, aircraft services, and auxiliary rooms in the terminal building make Varaždin Airport one of the most comprehensive smaller airports in Croatia. Since August last year, the airport has featured the TOP GUN caffe, offering a terrace view of the aircraft.

Varaždin Airport is home to numerous pilot schools and is used by official police, military, and civil rescue helicopters, as well as private users of light and ultralight aircraft.

Following the renovation of taxiways and aprons, the terminal building at Varaždin Airport has also been refurbished. The roof has been repaired, installations have been upgraded, and the rooms in the terminal building have been renovated and are now ready for rent. A public tender will be announced for this purpose. Additionally, a space for pilots has been arranged as a representative area for rest, refreshments, and handling administrative tasks. This room often serves as the first point of contact with Varaždin for many, so hosts have ensured access to service information and brochures about Varaždin's landmarks and tourist offerings.

Jung Sky among the partners

A hangar at the airport has been rented by the domestic airline Jung Sky, which specializes in private charter flights across Europe. The company has recognized the economic and tourism potential and benefits that this part of the aviation industry can bring to Varaždin Airport, the city, and the county. Jung Sky has established a base in Varaždin for maintenance and complex services for jet aircraft types Cessna 525, 525A, and 525B.

Plans for the future

Future development plans for the airport include enhancing cooperation with airlines, schools, private owners, and aeroclubs, as well as increasing the number of jet landings. The airport aims to maintain competitive hangar rental prices and landing fees while also focusing on increased airport utilization and various forms of commercial use to ensure sustainability and liquidity.

In addition to the development of the airport, there will be focus on organizing air shows, parachute boogies, aeroclub competitions, drone races, and similar sports and recreational activities. With its modernized facilities, Varaždin Airport is positioning itself as a key point for connectivity, innovation, and tourism. The events and collaborations will further enrich both the local community and the international aviation scene.
